Abstract This study analysed the determinants of the benefits derived and sustainability of supervised enterprise project conducted in Kano state. Available studies on Supervised Enterprise Projects conducted in Kano State since the inception of the programme in Bayero University Kano failed to address the benefits derived and sustainability of such projects. Both primary and secondary data were used for this study. Primary data was generated from the respondents through the use of structured questionnaire administered by trained enumerators. Purposive sampling was used in the study to select 90 respondents (90 SAFE graduates) who were interviewed. This was so because the study targeted those SAFE graduates of Kano state indigene as they rank highest as compared to other students. Descriptive techniques used were frequency distribution, percentages and mean. The inferential statistical technique employed was factor analysis. The result showed that 97.8% of the respondents were male with a mean age of 48 years, mean household size of 11 persons with civil service being their main occupation. Furthermore, about a quarter (23.3%) of the SEPs conducted were crop production based. The mean score obtained from the benefits derived from the various SEPs conducted in the study area indicated that improvement in living standard (4.40) ranked highest. The result for factor analysis revealed that four (4) factors met the Kaisers Rule of thumb criterion having an Eigen values of 7.591, 1.791, 1.437 and 1.166 with a percentage variance of 44.654, 10.536, 8.455 and 6.859 respectively hence were accepted. Also, out of the 16-index influencing the sustainability of SEPs conducted in the study area, 14 index (variables) had a loading of >0.6 while the remaining 2 failed to meet the criteria. It was therefore recommended that creating a permanent budget for SEPs would help to solve more of the financial problem surrounding it. Top Keywords Sustainability, Benefits, SEPs. Top |
