Abstract

The effect of host plant physiomorphic characters on the abundance of thrips and jassids were studied on fifteen genotypes which differed significantly in growth duration, morphological characteristics, and biochemical properties of leaf. Thrips started to build up from the first week of May and reached peak during fourth week of June to first week of July (14 to 24 per 5 cm top shoot). The population of jassids remained more or less constant throughout the growing period of okra. Abundance of thrips and jassids varied depending genotypic characteristics of okra. The number of leaves per plant had significant positive effect although leaf area showed negative effect on the abundance of thrips while leaf area of the genotypes showed significant positive relationship with the abundance of jassids. The total chlorophyll content of leaf revealed significant positive correlation with the abundance of jassid. Abundance of the insects from correlation matrices depicted that there was negative correlation between thrips and jassid population in okra genotypes.
