College of Dental Sciences and Research, Modinagar, (Ghaziabad) Abstract It has been reported that diabetes may impair immune defense mechanism and make human beings more susceptible to infection as compared to non-diabetics (Mealey 1999). Poor metabolic control of diabetes results with a consequent increased risk of developing diabetic complications. Material & Methodology:- A total number of 879 subjects (Age ∼ 4 – 65 years), out of which 729 subjects with gingivitis were considered in the present study. The serum and plasma from the identified patients and controls, were collected and stored at −200 c till further use. The level of biochemical parameters (Cholesterol, TG, HDL, LDL and VLDL) were estimated by Auto Analyzer (ERBA Trans Asia, Mumbai, India), using standard kits. Results: - The results of all the experiments were analyzed by using SPSS software, verson 10. Discussion: - A significant high level of cholesterol, TG, LDL, VLDL and lower level of HDL in the serum of the subjects suffering from both gingivitis and diabetes were observed in the present study as compared to the non-diabetics and the subjects without gingivitis.
