Online published on 25 December, 2013. Abstract Introduction Dental caries is universally prevalent chronic dental disease which requires early diagnosis. Various advanced caries diagnostic methods have been reported better than older conventional methods. In the present systematic review an attempt has been made to study the accuracy of DIAGNOdent with that of other methods. Material and Methods A review of literature was performed searching for all articles on use of DIAGNOdent in detection of dental caries from 1978 to 2012. Out of initial 4978 articles; 35 articles fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected for the systematic review. Results The sensitivity of DIAGNOdent ranged from 73–96% and specificity was found to be in the range of 63–95% and was found to be more accurate in early detection of dental caries. Conclusion The literature review demonstrated that laser fluorescence (DIAGNOdent™) is an far more accurate method for the diagnosis of dental caries in permanent teeth in comparison to conventional methods.
