The present study was done to work out the criteria for determination of sex of the deceased with the help of sternum. Authors have studied 153 adult fully ossified, dried sterna (98 males and 55 females) of North Indian Population. These sterna were obtained from Cadavers obtained in Department Of Anatomy, SGRD Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Amritsar of last three years. The parameters calculated were; length of manubrium, length of body of sterum, sternal index and combined length of manubrium and body of sternum. The data thus obtained concluded that average combined length of manubrium and mesosternum in North India mm in females which was statistically highly significant. This conclusion will be of utmost importance to anthropologists and medico legal experts in sexing the sternum. Top Keywords Human sternum, sex, anthropology, North Indians. Top |
