Evaluation of antibody response by ELISA in riverine buffaloes experimentally infected with Fasciola gigantica Ghosh S., Gupta S.C., Rawat Preeti, Singh B.P. Division of Parasitology, Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar-243 122, India Abstract The kinetics of antibody response to Fasciola gigantica infection in riverine buffaloes was studied by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA). Sera from buffaloes naturally infected with F. gigantica reacted strongly with partially purified protein antigens of 27.7 and 37.5 kDa in dimer form before and after 10 week of treatment of animals by oxyclozanide @ 10 mg kg−1 body weight. In ELISA, a significant increase in anti-Fasciola antibody response was observed on 4–5 weeks post infection in the animals infected with 200 or 800 metacercariae of F. gigantica. No significant correlation between antibody response vis-a-vis dose of infection was recorded. However, early immunological detection of infection observed in the present finding has advantage over delayed coprological detection, possible only after 14 weeks of prepatent phase.
