Abstract The present investigation was undertaken to study the prevalence and chemotherapy of parasitic diseases in carnivores at Mahendra Choudhury Zoological Park, Chhatbir, Punjab. The overall occurrence of gastrointestinal parasites was found to be 58.68%. Nematodes were most common followed by coccidian parasites. Highest prevalence of ascarids was reported in lions. It was seen that treatment of animals with appropriate drug was found to be 100% effective in majority of cases. The reduction in faecal egg count reached zero 5–15 days post treatment. The re-occurrence of Toxascaris leonina infection by day 30 post treatment was observed in lions.
