Part of Ph.D.work submitted to Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur Abstract Ten Barbari goats of 2–3 month age were procured and six were infected each with 2000 cercariae of Schistosoma incognitum and 2000 cercariae of S. spindale and one with 3000 cercariae of S. incognitum and 1000 of S. spindale by a newly developed polytheneear pinna method. All the infected animals developed patent infection. The symptoms included anorexia, dullness, weakness, dehydration, bottle jaw, rough coat, staggering gait, loss of body weight, subnormal temperature, tendency for isolation from the herd, anaemia and diarrhoea varying from change in consistency of faecal pellet to shooting watery diarrhoea. When watery diarrhoea persisted for 1–3 days, animals recovered but its prolongation to about a week or more resulted in death of the animals. Three animals died due to schistosomosis showing symptoms of watery diarrhoea, complete off-fed, staggering gait, difficulty in standing, severe anaemia, dehydration, oedema and subnormal temperature.
