Abstract Prevalence of freshwater snails in Greater Guwahati (26°05′ to 26°15’N latitudes and longitudes 91°35′ to 91°50’E) was studied for a period of one year (September 1999 to August 2000). Out of a total 17 species recorded, the prevalence of Brotia (antimalania) costula, Lymnaea (Pseudosuccinia) acuminata f. chlamys, Lymnaea (Galba) andersoniana, Segmentina trochoidea, Physa acuta and Lamellidens corrianus are found to be new record from the region. Species wise highest and lowest prevalence was found in Indoplanorbis exustus (10.68%) and Lamellidens corrianus (0.97%) species, respectively. Physa acuta has been recorded from the region which was otherwise considered to be available only in fossil forms in India. Top Keywords Fresh water snail, Assam, Prevalence. Top |
