Character association in rice bean [Vigna umbellata (thumb.) Ohwi and Ohashi]

Abstract

Sixty genotypes of rice bean Vigna umbellata Obumb.) Ohwi and Ohashi co1lected from different regions of country as well as exotic were evaluated for yield and its components. Correlation studies indicated that grain yield per plant was significant positively associated with plant height, number of branches per plant, pods per cluster, pods per plant and pod length at boch genotypic and phenotypic levels indicating that the characters plant height, branches per plant, pods per citster, pods per plant and pod length are the principle yield components of rice bean. Thenfore any selection based on these characters will bring the desired Improvement In grain yield of ricebean. However, grain protein content showed significant negative correlation with grain yield per plant.
