Abstract A study to evaluate biochemical constituents In respect of nutritional significance in seeds of 27 genotypes of broad bean was carried out during 1995–96. Significant variations were observed in quality attributes of moisture crude proteln, NPN, true proteins ash, fat crude fibre, total carbohydrate, In vitro protein digestibility, phosphorus, sulphur, iron, tryphtophan and methionine content. Wide variability on physical parameters like 100 seed weight, water absorption capaclty, husk percentage and seed yield was also recorded ranging from 12.4 to 133.9g/100 seeds, 0.48 to 129.59%, 10.26 to 21.04% and 5.98 to 42.67 Q/ha, Genotypic rating indicated that genotypes DPBB-5, EC-284366, EC-284368, DPBB-4,EC-284347, EC-284366-II, EC-284372, DPBB-l,EC-284372 and Palampur local-3 emerged overall superior genotypes in order of excellence which might be useful for direct human consumption in the form of various culinary preparations.
