Response of bunch varieties of groundnut to Rhizobium inoculation

Abstract

Nitrogen is essential for proper growth and productivity of groundnut. Though groundnut variety TMV2 possessed more number of nodules per plant, they could not influence the increase of pod yields over TPTI. Highest number of nodules per plant, maximum dry plant weight and pod yield were obtained due to seed inoculation with the Rhizobium strain TAL 1371 followed by TNAU 14 in virgin soil. Of the six Rhizobium strains (TNAU 14, IGR 6, IGR 40, TAL 1371, TAL 1000 and NC 92) seed inoculated, none was found effective in significantly increasing the pod yield over check in traditionally groundnut grown soil.
