Abstract

Stemphylium blight caused by Stemphylium vesicarium is most important disease of garlic in low and mid hill areas of Himachal Pradesh. Seven fungicides alone or in combination were compared for their efficacy against this disease for three consecutive years (2003–2005). All the fungicides varied in their efficacy and Score (difenoconazole 25 EC) - 0.015% was the best treatment. Its efficacy in managing the disease over the years of experimentation was also significantly higher than all other fungicides. This treatment was followed by Folicur (tebuconazole 250 EW) - 0.05% + Indofil M-45 (mancozeb 75WP) -0.25%. The individual fungicides found effective during 3 years of experimentation were further compared in different schedules for their efficacy and economics against this disease in the subsequent year. The schedule comprising of Companion (carbendazim 12%+mancozeb 63%) - Score (difenoconazole 25 EC) - Indofil M-45 (mancozeb 75 WP) was quite effective (per cent disease control, PDC=91.6) and highly economical (cost benefit ratio, CBR=1:3.12). This schedule was closely followed by schedule comprising of Companion (carbendazim 12%+mancozeb 63% WP), Folicur (tebuconazole 250 EW), Indofil M-45 (mancozeb 75 WP) (PDC=89.61) and schedule comprising of Indofil M-45 (mancozeb 75 WP) - Score (difenoconazole 25 EC), Companion (carbendazim 12% + mancozeb 63% WP) (PDC=85.84) with cost benefit ratio of 1:3.09 and 1:3.03, respectively.
