Performance management sysyems: An empirical study in Indian companies Choudhary Supriya Reader, Maharaja Surajmal Institute, (Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University), Delhi-58 Online published on 20 February, 2014. Abstract Thomas ‘Wayne’ Brazell once rightly remarked, “When your work speaks for itself, get out of the way.”Organizations today survive on performance. But what speaks for the performance of an individual? It is a process known as the performance appraisal where the management gets to know how successful and effective it has been in hiring and placing its employees. Today, HR works towards facilitating and improving the performance of the employees by building a conducive work environment and providing maximum opportunities to the employees for participating in organizational planning and decision making process. Today, all the major activities of HR are driven towards development of high performance leaders and fostering employee motivation. Employees may spend their time on the job behaving in a variety of ways. The purpose of a well-designed performance management system should be to channel and motivate employees to concentrate their energies on value-added performance. The extent to which an organization achieves this outcome depends upon the design and structure of its performance management system. The present empirical study is based on the effectiveness of the performance management systems in selected Indian companies. Top | |
