Abstract

The main purpose of the study is to investigate the effect of demographics on employee's sense of empowerment in some selected public sector undertakings in India. The four dimensions of psychological empowerment, for example meaning, competence, self-determination and impact, and the seven dimensions of structural empowerment for example locus of control, self-esteem, role clarity, autonomy, information and communication, reward system and skills and knowledge are identified as independent variables with organisational effectiveness and its four system variables as the dependent variable. This study seeks to find out the effect of demographic factors like education, employee grade and length of service on employee's feeling of empowerment. The results show that the demographic factors except education do not significantly influence the perception of empowerment in central public sector enterprises in India.
