Abstract

This survey-based descriptive research has been undertaken in private multi-speciality hospitals, Tirunelveli city, Tamil Nadu. The objectives of this research are to identify and differentiate the risk factors associated with shift work, to compare the impact of shift work on physical health, individual life and family life of the employees working in paramedical and non-medical departments in private multi-speciality hospitals. The study has sampled 240 respondents (120 respondents from paramedical discipline and 120 respondents from non-medical discipline) using both stratified random-sampling and judgement-sampling techniques. Weighted average has been administered to examine and differentiate the risk factors associated with shift work and impact of shift work on physical health, individual life and family life of the employees. Mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variation have been applied to compare the impact of shift work and extent of perception towards impact of shift work. The result of the study has shown that there is no significant difference in the perception of the employees working in paramedical and non-medical divisions towards risk factors and its impact on physical health, individual life and family life.
