Yoga on Stress of Institutionalised Old Age People

Abstract

Aging is a natural apparent fact in the human life. The world is expected to experience an unprecedent aging of the human population in countries worldwide. A quasi experimental study to assess the effectiveness of yoga therapy on the level of stress among institutionalized elderly in selected old age homes at Chennai. To assess the pre test level of stress among institutionalized elderly person before providing yoga therapy. To assess the post test level of stress among institutionalized elderly after providing yoga therapy. To determine the effectiveness of yoga therapy in reducing the level of stress among the institutionalized elderly. To find out the association between level of stress and selected demographic variables. The present study assessed the effectiveness of the yoga therapy on the level of stress among institutionalized elderly in selected old age homes at Chennai. The results revealed that with the selected yoga there was a highly significant reduction of stress with the statistical value of p<0.001 level. The study revealed that the yoga therapy was effective in reducing the level of stress among old age people.
