Physical Health Outcome in Flood-A Decriptive Study

Abstract

Flooding constitutes the most prevalent and costly natural disaster in the world. India too has been suffering heavily due to flood. Though, Government of India (GOI) has been spending large amount of money on flood control, its main focus is on irrigation. The 2015 flood affected the Coromandel coast region of the south Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, and the Union Territory of Puducherry, and the city of Chennai particularly hard-hit. The present study is a community based descriptive, cross sectional study conducted at selected suburbs of Thiruvallur District. This study included 4607 individuals from1162 families. Convenient sampling technique was adopted for the selection of samples. The data collection was done for a period of one week. Standard tests for descriptive statistics were applied, which commonly included the use of frequency and percentage.
