Abstract Pregnancy in association with insulin resistance and hyper insulinemia may predispose to Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM). The international diabetes federation estimates that globally, 20 million annual live births (16.8%) occur to women with some form of hyperglycemia. Hence, this study aimed to assess the effectiveness of video assisted teaching on knowledge, self-care and glycemic control among pregnant women with GDM. Methods The study used a one group pre-test post-test research design among 30 antenatal mothers with GDM attending KMCH hospital Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The participants attended video assisted teaching, and data was collected using a structured questionnaire on knowledge, check list for self care and Blood glucose levels. Results There was significant increase in the post-test level of knowledge when comparing to pre-test (p<0.005), self care (p<0.001), and glycemic levels (p<0.05). Age, education and family history of DM were associated with knowledge and self-care of women with GDM (p<0.05). Top |
