Abstract

Breastfeeding is vital to the health and wellbeing of infants. Numerous scientific evidences have been documented regarding the nutritional and immunological superiority of human milk for nourishing infants. The purpose of the study is to determine the effectiveness of breast feeding module in terms of feeding practice and neonatal bio-physiological variables among postnatal mothers in a selected hospital. Quasi experimental design was adopted. Background data was collected-demographic, maternal, neonatal data. Teaching with module on breast feeding practice was given to experimental group mothers. Following delivery on first three days observations were made on breastfeeding practices and neonatal bio-physiological variables. The results indicated that effective breastfeeding practices have some influence over the neonatal bio-physiological variables and it supports the hypothesis. Promoting prenatal breastfeeding education must be a routine component in midwifery practice.
