Effectiveness of Prophylactic Information on Maternal Adjustment in Terms of Postnatal Blues Among Postnatal Mothers in Kasthurba Hospital at Dindigual, India

Abstract

This study was aimed to assess the effectiveness of prophylactic information on maternal adjustments in terms of postnatal blue among primi postnatal mothers in Kasthurba hospital at Dindigual. The conceptual framework of the study was based on the modified Ramona. T. Mercer's Maternal role attainment theory (1979). The study made use of Non equivalent quasi experimental post test only design. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 60 samples for the study. The intervention was individual teaching on prophylactic information regarding maternal adjustment was given by using compact disc for 45 minutes for the experimental group. The tool used for the study was Am I Blue Scale?. The data gathered was analyzed employing descriptive and inferential statistics. There is significant difference between experimental and control group test score ('t ’value = 8.59). Statistical analysis showed that the prophylactic information on maternal adjustment intervention in experimental group was highly significant at P<0.05 level. The study findings revealed that there was a significant improvement in levels of postnatal blues followed by prophylactic information on maternal adjustment among primi postnatal mothers.
