A Study to Assess The Level of Knowledge, Attitude and Practice on Anaemia Among Adolescent Girls in Kasturibai Gandhi Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Bahour At Pondicherry

Abstract

Background

Anemia is one of the most important nutritional deficiency disease in developing countries with children and adolescent girls being at a significantly higher risk for the condition. Anaemia can result in adverse pregnancy outcomes, and severe anemia can lead to maternal deaths, reduced work productivity and impaired physical capabilities among women.

Objectives

1. To assess the level of knowledge, attitude and practice on anaemia among adolescent girls. 2. To find out the association between the level of knowledge, attitude and practice on anaemia among adolescent girls with their selected demographic variables.

Materials and methods

It is a cross-sectional, descriptive research design conducted among 60 adolescent girls aged 15–17 years at Kasthuribai Gandhi Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Bahour at Puducherry. Convenient sampling technique was used to select samples.

Result

Out of 60 samples 32 (53.3%) adolescent girls had moderate knowledge, 59 (98.3%) girls had inadequate attitude and 39(65%) moderate practice.

Conclusion

The study concluded that the adolescents were having moderate knowledge on prevention of anaemia. Health care providers should educate the adolescent population about healthy practice on preventive measure of anaemia.
