Bio-Fertilizers-Facts, Prospectives and Future Strategy with reference to Organic Farming Tiwari V.N. Dept. of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, C.S. Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur. Abstract Since 1932, with the new innovation in technology of biofertilizer production, number of manufacturing industries were established in Europe, North America, Australia, India, Thailand, Argentina, Brazil and in many other countries. Among 300 production units of world 170 are located in India alone. Out of 170 units only 23 units, are under Govt. Supervision and remaining under private concerns. Globally, several types of inoculants are available that include—powder, granular, liquid and frozen concentrate. Moreover, powder form of inoculants were widely accepted and recognized and still are in use in India. Besides, significant good growth of biofertilizers in India the confidence of farmer still not reached to the accepted levels. On the other hand since last more than two decades, there had been good growth in biofertilizer production omitting the norms of BIS and registration of products. It is also observed by face to face interactions with producers that biofertilizers carriers are not sterlized and very old strains are being used for the preparation of bioinoculants. This had denamed the results obtained by their application. Besides carrier base inocula, private concern people have also started the production of liquid bioinocula in consulation with foreign countries and results are slightly better. Recently the tradition of mixed bioinoula by same concern have been started on same carrier in the supervision of non-skilled personals/without scientific background and claiming positive impact on crop by their use. But that is going to harm the sustainability in long run and abusing the usefulness of biofertilizers because on testing the cfu of none of the inoculum was observed. In organic farming the most important components are organic manures, biofertilizers and biopesticides. Keeping the things in view, it is desired to produce quality inoculants with the registrations of products following the norms of BIS, under the close supervison of expertise hands [Microbiologist/Soil Scientist (Specialized in soil microbiological works)] with good restriction on production and interventions of Government side.
