Line X Tester analysis of five characters in tomato Rattan R.S., Bindal Arvind R.K. Seed Farms (Regd.), Solan, H.P. Online published on 29 March, 2016. Abstract In Tomato line × tester methodology was deployed for combining ability analysis using eight lines (females) and seven testers (males). The characters studied were number of fruits per plant, yield per plant, weight per fruit, pericarp thickness and number of locules per fruit. The analysis of variance for combining ability indicated highly significant differences for all the characters, excepting for number of locules in testers and lines x testers. s2A/s2D ratio indicated predominance of additive gene effects in weight per fruit and pericarp thickness whereas non additive effects were more important for other characters. Hybrids 540 × 581, 545 × 599, 748 × 599 and 773 × 601 have been identified for commercial exploitation for increased yields, pericarp thickness and locule number. Top Keywords Line X Tester, Tomato.
