Human Rights of Police Personnel with special reference to Lucknow District

Abstract

Police is often being criticized for inefficiency and incompetence. Though the criticism is always not fair, there is genuine perception amongst the people that police organisation are not able to manage changes as fast as it is expected from them. The overall work environment of police, particularly of subordinates and middle rank officers, is dehumanizing and de-intellectualizing. Fatigue by work. inadequate time for families, sleep disturbance, unpredictable duty hours are major stress factors in the life of Indian police. They do not give up their basic rights by signing to the police services. The humane condition of work is the key to the efficient and effective working of the policemen. Article 7 of International Covenant of Economic. Social and Cultural Rights recognize the right of everyone to the enjoyment of just and favorable conditiOns of work which ensure, in particular a decent livingfor themselves and their families in accordance with the provisions of the present covenant, Safo and healthy working conditions. equal opportunity for everyone to be prompted in his employment to an appropriate higher level. Subject to no considerations other than those of seniority and competence; Rest; Leisure and reasonable limitation of working hours and periodiC holidays with pays as well as remuneration for public holidays. A growing organisation cannot neglect its humane side. Employees are the real fortune makers who make the organisation a strong and growing unit. It becomes necessary for management to nurture the spirit of oneness and to develop the organisation entity. Humane working condition helps the organisation to accomplish what it desires to achieve.
