Abstract When design of water resources development projects is proposed, it is necessary that calculation of maximum discharge is made. Stage discharge relationships are developed to calculate peak discharge by changing records of water stages into discharge. Poonch River and its tributaries at flowing in three different locations viz Poonch, Chandak Mandi and Surunkote were chosen for development of stage Discharge relationships and rating curve by analyzing their flow data. 20, 15 and 17 readings respectively were taken for three and half months continuously and then analysed in Microsoft excel for developing the rating curve and the stage discharge relationships. Q= 49.99(G-1.95)0.01 (Poonch), Q= 88.16(G-1.94)0.65 (Chandak Mandi), Q = 105.05(G-1.63)0.57 (Surunkote) were the three stage discharge relationships for the three locations. The corresponding rating curve at Chandak Mandi was almost a straight line due to accuracy of the relationship and flexibility in variation of stage and discharge measurements during different observations, whereas at Surunkote it was not as straight as it was at Chandak Mandi. Poonch location has the most irregular stage discharge curve among all. Top Keywords Stage, Discharge, Rating Curve, Poonch River, Chandak Mandi, Surunkote, Stage discharge Relationships. Top |
