Abstract

Rainfall is prominent sources for water resources in mid latitude region which causes over saturation of solar radiation terms to occur the scarcity in water resources. The east side of southern india (Tamilnadu) depends upon the north-east monsoon but some of few decades causes the monsoon failure and leads to drought prone years. For that basic statistical analysis are taken for Rain gauge Stations such as Alagiapandiapuram, Alangulam, Ayikudi, Tenkasi, Sengottai, Cheranmahadevi and Vijayanarayanamand they are used to collect the rainfall data within the chittar and its surrounding region which allocated in tiruneveli district, Tamilnadu. This statistical approach is carried out for the mutual relationship between the Rain gauge Stations for their rainfall variation. Again Temperature and rainfall for past years are carried the relationship over the chittar watershed. The statistical methods whereas Pearson, Kandell tau's and Spearman's rank are used for this study and positive as well as negative correlation with the temperature and rainfall. Linear trend is applied for the year of short term rainfall observed that the positive as well as negative relationship from the regression line. Coefficient of determination has low values but it varied from the month-wise of rainfall distribution. For this study, Rainfall information contributes from rural as well as urban varying the trend and thereby changes of time scale with the study area as negative movement of trend. Rainfall of chittar watershed occurs nearby Western Ghats by the south west monsoon (June–August)due to leeward side and then northeast monsoon (October – December) is covered their geographical areal distance lies in windward side.
