An insight into determinants of funds management in indian scheduled commercial banks

Dr. Kavitha N.

Assistant Professor, Department of Management, College of Business and Economics, Mekelle University, Ethiopia.

Abstract

The banking industry is the heart of commercial activity and reflects the economic health of a country. If this sector is healthy, the economy of the country is also healthy, while, on the other hand, if it is sick, the economy of the country would also be in the doldrums. The pace of growth in the Indian banking industry till nationalization was considered low, both in terms of business as well as branch expansion. After nationalization of banks, the sector embarked upon development programmes. The activities undertaken by commercial banks have increased manifold in volume, variety and geographical coverage. Although banks create no new wealth, their lending, investing and related activities facilitate the economic process of production, distribution and consumption. Thus, banks constitute the core of the financial structure of an economy.
