Abstract

Indian society is still characterized by its ancient societal norms and values but yet amongst it, the status and role of women have witnessed rapid changes in recent years. The thoroughly domesticated women who could not think beyond the welfare of their families have now awakened to action. They have a fierce desire to succeed, which is the awakening of their dormant individuality. Women do have the required talent to occupy predominant positions in enterprises. The attitude of women is not as rigidly unfavorable as it was in the past. The social constraints and attitudes that inhibit the development of women entrepreneurs, the atmosphere in which they work and the attitude of the society, all together were keeping them away from the active work of the entrepreneurship. As married working women, many women entrepreneurs have to assume multiple roles in the family in addition to their careers. They must bear major responsibility for household chores and childcare. These responsibilities give rise to work-family conflict, which becomes an obstacle in managing their business enterprise. Maintenance of good marital relations is important in reducing spouse conflict and increasing well being in women entrepreneurs. By enabling woman to become entrepreneurs and participate fully and more effectively in a wider range of economic and industrial activities, it is possible not only to improve their position in society, but also to make greater progress towards overall economic and social development. Our increasing dependency on service sector has created many entrepreneurial opportunities especially for women where they can excel their skills with maintaining balance in their life.

The purpose of this empirical study is intended to find out various motivating and de-motivating internal and external factors of women entrepreneurship. It will also suggest the way of eliminating and reducing hurdles of the women entrepreneurship development in Indian Context.
