SHG bank linkage programme for inclusive growth:- A study of Rajasthan state

Abstract

Microfinance has made tremendous growth in India over the years and it has become a household name in view of the multi-pronged benefits with regards to services for poor in our country. Self Help Group- Bank Linkage Programme (SBLP) - a pilot project started by NABARD is widely accepted model in the sector of microfinance in India with an active participation of NGOs, State Development Institutions, Commercial Banks, Regional Rural Banks, District Rural Development authority's (DRDAs) and local bodies like Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). The SBLP has made an adventure in the economy by transforming the formal banking services to rural poor and needy people particularly women group. Due to wide spread rural bank branch network, the SHG-Bank Linkage Programme is very suitable in the Indian context. This paper is an attempt to analyse the SHGs movement in India as these are helpful in order to alleviate poverty and women empowerment. The present study is analytical and exploratory and based upon secondary data which has been collected from different published reports, journals and existing available literature. The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of self help group bank linkage programme in Rajasthan state. The study results proved that SHG bank linkage programme has been recognized as one of the most successful and rapidly growing micro finance mode in Rajasthan state.
