Abstract Due to the globalization, liberalization, privatization, job opportunities and work pressures are increasing day by day. Every employee in the organization is expected to excel in their jobs. In that situation, employees have pressure to perform their role in organization. It ultimately, leads to have a stress, strain, nervousness and anxiety to the employees. This study indicates that organizational role stress and its management among BPO employees in Chennai. BPO sector has become one of the fastest growing sectors in India. Strong demand over the past few years has placed India amongst the fastest growing IT markets in Asia – Pacific region. The reason for choosing particularly BPO employees is that the level of stress face is comparatively higher than other employees. Thus the main aim of this article is to bring to lime light the level of role stress and coping mechanism with BPO employees in Chennai. It discusses the different role stress experienced by the BPO employees. It includes role space, role set, and coping mechanisms. The author has not taken any particular sample in an organization but it is in general BPO employees in and around Chennai, Tamil Nadu - India.
