Post economic reforms and Indian agriculture sector: A study of fiscal expenditure and agricultural growth

Abstract

The 1991 has been the significant year for economic reforms in India which was characterized by opening up of economy, globalization and decentralization. Fiscal policy reform has been one of the major components of economic policy reforms. Fiscal consolidation includes tax reforms and expenditure policies of the government. With the shrinkage in fiscal space due to post economic liberalization reforms, there is need for corrective measures to improve fiscal expenditure for higher agriculture spending. Present descriptive research has examined the effect of post-policy reforms on growth of agriculture sector in India. Paper has also examined the impact of fiscal reforms on agriculture sector spending and how fiscal reforms have affected the utilization of agriculture sector in post-economic liberalization era.
