Businesses both voluntarily and involuntarily are becoming increasingly involved in the other facets of the society. More than the age old concept of merely making profit and also the erstwhile notion of paying only for the damages made by them corporations are more and more interested in taking up societal problems and trying to concretely address them. The concept of community development wherein the efforts of people are linked with that of the government's in order to solve human problems has to be extended to include businesses too as they are also highly potent organs of the society. Along with the nature of the same, this paper tries to examine the role of social work profession in refining the initiatives carried out as part of the social responsibility efforts of the corporations by providing them a humanistic touch and also the changes the profession has to go through in order for the same. Particularly dealt with are the new skill sets that social work professionals have to acquire in order to be competent in the sphere of Corporate Social Responsibility.
