An Economic analysis of Production Export and Foreign Exchange Earned in Horticulture Sector in Jammu and Kashmir

Abstract

Horticulture, the diversified field of agriculture plays a very dominant role with a profitable share in the world economy, and providing livelihood security globally to the farmers. India has a comparative advantage in a variety of horticulture products. The horticulture supplements well a percentage of food security, income and employment generation so alleviates the poverty. Jammu and Kashmir known as the land of fruits, due to its various topographical conditions and favorable climate has provided larger services for horticulture Industry, to develop more quickly. In fact, increasing fruit industry has altered the social and economic status of Jammu and Kashmir and helps the people who related to it and also to reshape the state economy to some amount. The Jammu and Kashmir enjoy monopoly producer in the production of different types of spices and fruits such as Saffron, delicious Apple, Almond and Black Zeera. The increasing demands of horticulture commodities increase the economic growth, development, urbanization and globalization in the state. While export of horticulture commodities Jammu and Kashmir is earnings huge amount of foreign exchange. The present paper attempts to analyze the production, productivity and to identify the export and foreign exchange earnings in the horticulture sector This paper is both empirical and analytical in nature. In Jammu and Kashmir, the fruit industry holds key to rectifying the economic ailments as well as holding the faraway joblessness in the state
