Abstract

Researchers have conducted exploratory research to analyze and explain the current trends ofthe purposes and the implications of researches, knowledge translation. The researchers performed a comparative study to find whether these problems are limited to India only, and found that the problems must be lying in all countries across the globe, especially the developing countries. Only 7.67%, 3.47% and 7.15% of the documents in all the research fields are from the social sciences in developed, developing and undeveloped countries, with average percentage of citations in social sciences to that of overall research areas to be 4.47%, 1.88% and 4.07% respectively. Whereas, the average number of citations per document in social sciences which are 13.37, 4.79, and 7.43 with respect to average number of citations per document for all research fields which are 22.70, 10.24, and 13.07 respectively. The concepts of research dissemination, knowledge translation, or translational research have crept into the scene. As the interest in this gap has increased, the terminologies used for the same have increased too. Diffusion, dissemination, implementation, knowledge transfer, knowledge translation, knowledge mobilization, translational research, linkage and exchange, implementation science, evidence based practice and research into practice are all being used to describe overlapping and interrelated concepts and practices. These terms are being used interchangeably in the literature.
