Leveraging social media to ignite employee engagement

Abstract

Recently, smartphone is used to increase the employee engagement level by improvising the channel of communication in the workplace. Organisations had also used smart phone application such as Facebook and Yammer to increase their employee engagement level. Employee engagement is one of the most essential factors that can affect the company's performances. Engaged employees will have high motivation towards their work role and willing to work longer hour. Therefore, the result of this study will reveal the level of employee engagement and as well as assisting the company in improvising its internal communication process or system for the future. This research will measure the degree of the effectiveness of these applications on the employee engagement level among IT employees. It companies have over few thousands employee. Therefore, it must be difficult to maintain its employee engagement. Therefore, this research will examine whether or not social media could improve employee engagement. This paper aims to determine the extent to which social media application impact employee engagement and how it contributes to effective and efficient communication. It also aims to find the social media contribution to employee engagement due to connectivity. The study will be carried out among the IT employees in Banglore. The sampling technique that will be used in this research is simple random sampling. Correlation tests will be used in order to analyze whether or not the relationship is significant. Then, multiple regressions test will also be run in order to analyze the causal chain relationship. It is proven that Social Media is able to enhance effective and efficient communication, and connectivity. Hence, through effective and efficient communication and better connectivity, employees will be able to improve engagement level among each other. This is because there are appropriate communication channel and continuous availability.
