Addicted to facebook: role of narcissism and self-esteem Dr. Mahajan Remia P.G. Department of Psychology, University of Jammu, J&K, India Online published on 22 January, 2016. Abstract Technological advancements bring both positive and negative feedback associated with it. Facebook, the most popular Social Networking Site (SNS) all over the world, too, has major psychological concerns related to its use. This study aims to investigate the role of narcissism and self-esteem in predicting Facebook addiction membership. Facebook users (N=107), aged between 18–45 years, who were recruited as sample via online survey hosting website. NPI-16, Rosenberg self-esteem questionnaire and Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale (BFAS) were administered to the sample. Discriminant analysis revealed significant contribution of narcissism and self esteem in predicting Facebook addiction membership, with users high in narcissism and low in self esteem were found to be more addicted to Facebook.
