Abstract

The study observed that in the fifteenth century Sikhism was emerged as a socio-religious movement to liberate the nation of passive, hopeless, demoralized and slave people. Sikh Gurus were the harbingers of individual freedoms. They filled the new spirit of love for freedom among people and motivated them to fight against those socio-religious and political forces which wish to perpetuate the domination of helpless, deprived and week masses. They were against the mental and physical slavery. They believed that slavery is the gross violation of human dignity and individual's freedom. Sikh history is a replica of courageous struggle for freedom from foreign invaders, despotic rulers and hypocrite socio-religious leaders. It is impact of their teachings that people look towards Sikhs for their liberation and protection of human rights.
