Abstract

With the recent developments of international politics and security in Central Asia, the United States has had major strategic interests in the Central Asian countries. This paper will look at how the U.S. interests in Central Asia have grown as the international security and stability in the region becomes more serious issues in those Central Asian countries. It will also explore the challenges that the U.S. is facing in Central Asia, such as attempting to foster democratic reforms on more authoritarian governments which cause resentment to the U.S., opposition to U.S. actions in the Global War on Terror, and conflicting Russian and Chinese influences. The paper will also talk about the complicated problems that face the nations in Central Asia and countries with interests there.
