Abstract Parenting is a complex process involving much more than a mother/father providing food, safety and succor to an infant or child. It is not a single activity, but includes all the tasks of raising a child to an adult. Parenting addresses the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors associated with supporting and promoting the optimal growth and development of infants and children. Parenting style provides a robust indicator of parenting functioning that predicts child wellbeing across a wide spectrum of environments and across diverse communities of children (Nair, et al., 2007). Studies on parenting indicate that parents usually adopt positive and negative dimensions of behaviors to control and lead their offspring's. That is parenting is a multidimensional construct. To be a parent of an exceptional child is a very challenging event. The presence of a deaf child in a family may affect all areas of family life (Luterman, 1987). The moment a parent understand that their offspring is deaf and accepting the reality, will really be a shocking one. Mostly parent will feel high level of conflict in the beginning, but due to that, they will try to overcome the conflict through either not accepting their child which lead to rejection or over protecting their child. In the present study parenting styles of parents of deaf children is explored in multidimensional manner. Peculiarities and deviance found in Kerala population are discussed in the article.
