Internal migration helps to reduce the structural and developmental disparities between the place of origin and place of destination. Short-term and seasonal migration are the common internal migrations in India. Kerala, having the highest number of emigrants in different parts of the world and remittance, was one of the main income sources for the economic stability of the state. High literacy rate, preference of white collar jobs and the large number of emigrants create lack of semi-skilled and unskilled labours in Kerala. Improved socio-economic condition, developed new infrastructures, high wages and employment opportunities are the major attracting factors for migration from other states like West Bengal, Orissa, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand and Rajasthan to Kerala. Highly profile of host community of Kerala and low profile of migrant workers make differentiate the social and living condition. Low level of literacy rate among the migrant workers caused difficulty in learning the language, that in turn caused communication barriers, exploitation and difficulty in making a relationship with the host community. The study focused on educational level of migrant workers in Kerala and how it reflects on their attitude towards the social condition. Primary data collected in Ernakulam district, total sample size is 385. Social integration is an essential part of improving the socio-economic and cultural condition of both migrant and host community.
