Abstract Medical Tourism in India has been steadily increasing over the past few years. And today, the country is considered as one of the top 10 sought after destinations for global healthcare services. The paper identifies the role of medical tourism in India and strengths of India's medical tourism service providers and also focuses on the key issues and opportunities possessed by Indian medical tourism sector that enable it to overcome by the domestic and international barriers on upgrading its medical services. The main objective of the study is to analyses and concludes the main reasons why the developing country like India attracts foreign tourists for the medical treatment.
