Abstract

The concept of career maturity focuses on an individual to make an appropriate career choice and successfully cope up with the demands of the career progression. Crites (1976) described career maturity as having attitudinal and cognitive dimensions. This paper initiates integration of action theory and the notion of human agency in life and career. A review of the theoretical and research background of the two perspectives forms a conceptual basis for discussion and analysis. The paper then compares some facets of the two perspectives, recognizing variation while focusing more on the common conceptual ground they share.
