Abstract

Injuries in children due to common household objects are uncommon but can be serious with life threatening consequences. This paper presents two cases of soft tissue injuries due to a toothbrush and a pen tip respectively. The embedded part was taken out extra-orally and the subsequent healing was uneventful. No post operative morbidity was noted in each case. With such cases been reported, the need arises to emphasize the importance of adult supervision when children are doing their daily chores or playing with other apparently harmless objects. The role of a maxillofacial surgeon lies in the fact that potential damage to the vital structures like parotid duct or facial nerve branches can be identified and managed at the same time thus reducing any potential morbidity.
