Knowledge and Adoption of Recommended Cultivation Practices of Deshi Cotton variety AKA-8

Abstract

The study was undertaken in Akola District of Maharashtra State to investigate the knowledge and adoption of recommended cultivation practices of Deshio Cotton Variety AKA-8 AKA. The data was collected from the farmers who are growing this variety from last three years. A sample of 100 farmers was selected from two Tahsils of Akola district where this variety occupied more area. It is revealed from the study that, majority of respondents (41.00%) having medium level of knowledge of AKA-8, while 31 per cent of the respondents were having low level of knowledge, whereas only 28 per cent respondents were having high level of knowledge. In case of adoption it is found that, majority of the respondents (75%) had medium level of adoption AKA-8 cultivation technology. The percentage of respondents having low level of adoption was 25% whereas respondent having high level of adoption was not reported. Age, education, area under AKA-8, sources of information, socio-economic status, scientific orientation, risk preference established highly significant relationship with knowledge of cultivation practices recommended for AKA-8 cultivation. Whereas, land holding innovativeness and economic motivation has no significant relationship with knowledge. Only land holding and socio-economic status had showed positive and significant relationship with adoption of cultivation practices recommended for AKA-8. Whereas variable like age, education, area under AKA-8, sources of information scientific orientation and risk preference showed positive and highly significant relationship with adoption. The variables like innovativeness and economic motivation showed positive and non-significant relationship with adoption.
