Abstract

Effect of pollen and silk age on maternal haploid frequencies in maize were studied. It was observed that pollinations made at later hours of the day with pollen collected in the morning do not increase the frequency of maternal haploids. Aging of silks also failed to show enhanced haploid frequencies. The highest frequencies of maternal haploids were obtained with early pollinations of the silks or with fresh pollen.
