ABSTRACT Human Resource Information System (HRIS) holds a strategic place in decision-making for an effective management of human resources in organisations. Featured to contribute to the various goals and functions of human resource management, it plays a vital role in identifying vacancies, job positions and training needs in organisations. While a majority of studies on HRIS are based in the United States, Canada and Western Europe, a very few studies have taken place in developing countries despite the fact that adoption of technology innovation has become a universal phenomenon. This article elucidates the concept, pre-requisites and associated factors for successful adoption and implementation of HRIS by the managers and decision makers in organisations.
