Online published on 8 December, 2011. Abstract Surgical removal of third molar is the most commonly performed procedure by Oral Surgeons. Complications arising from surgical removal of mandibular third molar has been extensively researched and reported. The operating surgeon should be aware to recognize these complications and manage them to avoid embarrassment. Here we are reporting a case of fractured bur left in the socket after surgical removal of lower mandibular third molar. It is a first reported case of fracture of low speed handpiece bur retained in the socket and only the second case report of a fractured bur in surgical removal of the third molar.
