Abstract The present study was conducted to find out the seroprevalence of swine cysticercosis in and around Ludhiana city of Punjab. In all, 236 animals were examined. Seroprevalence was found to be 14.4% employing counter-immunoelectrophoresis (CIEP) using antigen prepared from cyst wall and scolices. On meat inspection, 6.35% carcasses were found positive for Cysticercus cellulosae infection. The most common sites were the thigh muscles, forequarter and neck muscles. No significant relationship was found between the disease, age, sex and season, whereas breed and management practices were found to influence the disease pattern significantly. CIEP was found to be a reliable test for the diagnosis of swine cysticercosis with 86.6% and 90.4% sensitivity and specificity, respectively. Top Keywords Seroprevalence, Swine cysticercosis. Top |
