Abstract

With increasing global awareness about environmental, social and ethical issues, corporate social responsibility (CSR) is now believed to be an integral part of corporate sector in every country. A number of researches have been conducted to know about the benefits of CSR accruing to the company assuming CSR. In addition, many companies believe that CSR improves the image and helps in long-term sustainability of the business. The development of CSR reflects the growing expectations of the community and stakeholders about the evolving role of companies to growing environmental, social and economic pressures. Through voluntary commitment to CSR, companies are hoping to send a positive signal of their behaviour to their various stakeholders (employees, shareholders, investors, consumers, regulators, Non Governmental Organisations and the government) and in so doing make an investment in their future. This paper throws light on different CSR initiatives taken by TATA Steel.
